IDM
Software FAQs

CATEGORY: Microsoft Software through MSDNAA and E-Academy

Q: I want to get some of the free Microsoft software. Where do I start?
A: The software is available only to IDM majors who are currently enrolled in one or more IDM classes. Your e-mail address was obtained from the registrar's office enrollment records and uploaded to E-Academy for you. Only your student e-mail address can be used at e-academy. It is imperative that you configure any SPAM filters to permit e-mail from the domain e-academy.com.

Q: My instructor said that my account should be enabled. However, I never received any e-mail from e-academy.com. What do I do now?
A: Navigate to https://msdn07.e-academy.com/wtamu_cis and click on the Support tab. At the bottom of that page is a mailto link by which you can document this problem. It is IMPERATIVE that you include in your e-mail the student e-mail address used by WTAMU. If you have an account based on that e-mail address, your password will be reset to some new value. You will then receive an e-mail indicating the URL, your login ID and your new password.

Q: I got the e-mail from E-Academy but forgot the URL or my loginID or password. What should I do?
A: See response to previous question.

Q: I got my account from E-Academy. I have tried to download the software but I have a very slow connection to the Internet and seem to be unable to ever get a download completed. What do I do?
A: Every download from E-Academy requires one CD. Purchase as many high quality (70 minute, 20X or better) CD-R's as you need and bring them to the HELC. Download the software into the C:\Temp directory. When the download is finished, click on the iso file you downloaded and burn the disk image to one of your blank CD-R's.

Q: I am confused. Everyone tells me that the downloads of the Microsoft software should take a long time. My download only took a few seconds. Surely that cannot be right. What is going on?
A: The download process is a two-part process. The first part downloads a download agent which is used to do the actual download which WILL take considerable time.

Q: OK I understand that the download process is a two-part process. However, the first download gave me a file that Windows does not recognize. What happened?
A: This problem is related to the use of a Mozilla-based browser (essentially any browser other than Microsoft's IE). To overcome the problem, use Window's file explorer to rename this unknown type file so that it has the extension .exe and then click on the renamed file to start the actual download. E-Academy is working to correct this problem and also to improve the instructions for accomplishing downloads.

Q: Can I get a CD already for me? I don't know how to download and burn a CD.
A: CD's are available for check out that are burned or bring a blank CD to your Instructor and they will see that copy is made for you. Also check some CD's are available from e-academy for a nominal handling charge.

Q: Can I get other software beside Microsoft software?
A: Yes, check out the root of e-academy at www.e-academy.com Login using the same username and password as setup on the department's e-academy website. There is a charge for this software but is very low priced for students use.
