About IDM
DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND DECISION MANAGEMENT
Our programs provide a strong foundation in business fundamentals and
strategies, and managerial issues related to information technologies.
Special interest is given to emerging technologies and their role as
facilitators of strategic advantage in the marketplace. We offer degree
programs at the undergraduate (BBA), and graduate (MBA) levels. We offer
students comprehensive education in the various dimensions of computer
information systems including database management, systems analysis and
modeling, data communications and networking, web-based applications
development, data warehousing, security, and visualization. IDM majors differ from computer science
majors in emphasizing applications of computer systems over their development and
analysis. The applications are focused on complex business needs in enterprises.
Our hi-tech, hi-touch learning environment provides a rich experience that is not
easily duplicated. We are able to electronically link our students with our computing
resources. Our students are able to have access to the Departments computing resources
any time and from any where. Our faculty has a rich blend of teaching, research,
and industry expertise, providing students with the conceptual and practical knowledge
necessary to pursue a successful career in information systems development and/or
management. The IDM Department is equipped with current technology in its computer
laboratories. These laboratories are combined with the classrooms.
The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program of study is designed to prepare
students for one of the most rapidly expanding professions in the business world.
The CIS programs prepare the student both to analyze an organization's information
systems structure and to design and implement that system. CIS majors conceptualize,
design, and implement business systems and build bridges between technical realities,
organizational functions, and decision-making by managers.
Strong partnerships with multiple technology companies including Dell, Microsoft,
IBM, and Oracle mean that our students have access to state-of-the-art software
and hardware in our courses and computer labs. In addition, real world projects
and experience-based education offer students the opportunity to apply classroom
training in practical situations, making them well suited to enter the job market.
The laboratories are arranged to enhance the learning environments. Our students
appreciate having the technical resources and the faculty integrated into a single
high quality learning experience. The IDM Department is oriented toward personal contacts
between students with much of it taking place outside the classrooms. Since classes
are relatively small, students become well acquainted with professors.
Relatively small classes, ample student attention, direct contact with professors
and the opportunity to take part in non-class activities such as the AITP, Epsilon
Delta Pi, Alpha Kappa Psi, and Delta Mu Delta are considered an integral part of
the students professional development and learning experiences. The Department
offers a variety of scholarships for qualified and dedicated students.
